Having built 50 flats in London there’s not much that D&P builders can’t handle!
From extensions to period buildings, loft conversions and bespoke kitchen design to small jobs like building garages, brick walls, laying garden patio’s or block paving your drive way. D&P attack each project with the same enthusiasm and attention to detail… here are a few examples of the
local projects D&P building has worked on and the feedback from our customers…
A Granny Annexe with independent access
For ‘Mrs D’ the objective was to create independent living accommodation for her ageing parents. D&P builders extended the house to create an annexe with double bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and living room with wheel chair access, no step up surfaces and a 4ft wide pathway right around the house for access. The exterior was pebble-dashed to match the main house and so cause minimal visual impact.
“A large project D&P building were organised and efficient they always kept us in the loop and were clean and tidy during The job. We are very happy with the result and more to the point so are my parents!” Mrs D of Halton
The Brief to D&P was to extend a kitchen and create a dining area in a well
lit conservatory. D&P built a conservatory with pitched, tiled roof including 4 velux solar powered windows. Inside the vaulted ceiling was supported by Douglas fur beams and the windows were double glazed units of toughened, thermally efficient glass.
The approach from D&P was to build the additional space to fit in sensitively with the period characteristics of the house whilst using the latest building techniques to ensure maximum fuel efficiency. (solar powered velux windows and thermally efficient glazed units)
“The conservatory dining area is fantastic, I love it! I know have a kitchen I can work and move around in- it has been a real revelation- thanks Paul for a job well done.”
Mr P- Wendover
Period Cottage extension
For Mrs S of Tring this extension was to clear up a rather dishevelled, rickety and mismatched garage and wooden conservatory and replace it with a new
extension matching the period style of the main house. Being a 1920’s period house D&P faced a faced a few challenges in reproducing the original ‘corbelling’ (stepped bricks extruding from the surface in a pattern) and soldier coursing (bricks stood up vertically under the windows –like soldiers!)
However since these local building traits are a D&P building specialty, they were successfully implemented and the garage and conservatory replaced with a new extension which, provided a new kitchen area and a home office allowing the previous ‘kitchen’ space to become a ‘study area’.
Outside a block paving ramp access was created and the lines of the roof unified to provide a smooth transformation between the ‘old’ and the new.
“We have so much more space on the inside and you can hardly tell there has been a new building added from the outside.
D&P have done a sterling job and at not a bad price either”
Mrs S- Tring
Loft Living- a loft conversion in Tring
Creating separate living accommodation in a large loft proved an interesting project for D&P… As D&P MD Paul Warrell describes
“In a 6mx12m area we used block partitioning to create a 2 bedroom loft apartment complete with separate kitchen diner, shower cubical and toilet. 3 velux windows provided ample light and we built new stairs leading up to the loft from the main house. We insulated it all with high grade insulation and decorated the area under the
supervision of our client, who chose the decorarative style and the kitchen and bathroom accessories.
“The result was astonishing, from a dimly lit loft emerged this fabulous designer flat, it was a very satisfying project to work on” said MD P.Warrell
“We have been very pleased with Paul’s building work he has done an excellent job and we would have no hesitation in recommending his services”
Mrs J of Pitstone
2 storey extension of a ‘Brownlow’ period cottage
The owners of an 1850 Brownlow Cottage in gothic style wanted a 2 storey extension with a vaulted, single storey kitchen area at
the back of the house to overlook the garden. This involved matching the elaborate stonework around the windows and the cornice on the corners of the house plus replicating the fabulous and distinctive Gothic arched shapes to the windows, typical of a Brownlow cottage. The project was attacked with gusto and within 3 months the 2 storey extension provided an extra bedroom and a large new kitchen with oak bi-fold doors to give ready access to the garden on warm summer days.
“it’ has added a new dimension to the house without it looking like a new building ‘stuck’ on the side Paul was very easy to deal and was reliable and punctual. I love my new kitchen!”
Mrs W- Ivinghoe
Next stop… all aboard a railway feature!
One of the more unusual projects D&P has worked on was a miniature railway to ferry house guests through the grounds of a large house In Halton. Mr P -A railway buff wanted to create his very own railway which, was to cross a lake and alight at It’s very own station!
Only to happy to oblige D&P building built 3 archways and tunnel and now you can regularly hear the ‘toot, toot’ of the miniature steam engine. As it carries it’s house guests and visitors in a carriage up and down the 5 acre estate…it’s eccentric projects like this which makes you proud to be British!
“D&P building were great ‘partners’ in this building adventure I think together we have created something memorable and original!”
Mr P -Halton
